either you switch and use your gitlab in https mode or you won't have it working I'm afraid.. simple as that, there seems to be ssh support in SAP WebIDE but the real thing is that SAP broke the standard Orion functionality around ssh when they implemented the SAPUI5 view.
as soon you enter either a URL prefixed by https or ssh you will notice the URL field will populate the other fields automatically in the SAPUI5 view.. won't happen for http.
otherwise stop using the HCP and use it locally, I think the IDE location would matter less than your source control system.
